Carter’s Insurance is e a regional insurance agency. We have happy customers in the Austin Metro, Victoria, coastal areas, and everywhere in between. Our focused market includes but is not limited to: Austin, Buda, Cedar Park, Cuero, Edna, Gonzales, Hallettsville, Kyle, Lakeway, Leander, Lockhart, Luling, Port O’Connor, Rockport, San Marcos, Shiner, Victoria, Wimberley, and of course Yoakum.
Our corporate office is located in downtown Yoakum.
Carter's Insurance Agency is a Hochheim Prairie Insurance Premiere Agency
Carter’s Insurance started in 1976 with Carroll Carter selling one insurance carrier “Hochheim Prairie Insurance”, to the rural communities surrounding Yoakum, Texas.
Hochheim Prairie is an insurance company with a focus on properties that are rural and unprotected. This gave us our start and our expertise in insuring farms and ranches across central Texas.
Carroll Carter along with his wife Ruth Carter of 60 years ran Carter’s Insurance Agency exclusively. Carroll and Ruth have two son’s Eddie Carter and Craig Carter.
Carter's Insurance expands into Austin Texas
In 1983 Eddie Carter the eldest son (your blog host), started selling insurance with Carter’s Insurance Agency and Hochheim Prairie in north Austin, Texas to the rural areas of Cedar Park and Leander. In 1984, Eddie Carter opened a Farmer’s Insurance Group agency in North Austin off Steck Avenue. Eddie worked with Farmer’s Insurance Group from 1984 to 1988 when he went to work for the Texas Department of Insurance as a fraud investigator. Insurance has always been in Eddie’s history.
After working with the Department of Insurance for a few years, Eddie Carter opened a new insurance agency again in north Austin, Texas off Braker Lane and IH-35. Eddie Carter and his best friend Todd Taylor jointly opened “Carter & Taylor” insurance agency selling Allstate Insurance exclusively until the fall of 2000.
In October of 2000, Carter & Taylor Insurance was sold so that owner Todd Taylor could move out of state and Eddie Carter could go back to his roots and family.
As a result, Eddie Carter along with Carroll and Ruth Carter opened an office in Lakeway Texas and in Dripping Springs Texas, again selling Hochheim Prairie Farm Mutual to the surrounding Travis, Hays, and Williamson counties
Carter's Insurance expands into Victoria Texas
In 2004, Carter’s Insurance bought Jim Hoffman Insurance Agency in Victoria Texas. Mr. Hoffman had served the crossroads community for many years and reached his retirement. Carter’s Insurance Agency continues the customer service started by Jim Hoffman in Victoria. Brenda Chamrad and Sara Ratcliffe are still with us today, hired by Jim Hoffman. As a result of Sara and Brenda we still insure many of the same friendly faces in Victoria Texas that were with Jim Hoffman in 2004.
Carter's Insurance Agency Today
As a result of our amazing client-centered approach, today July 9, 2021, Carter’s Insurance agency has multiple office locations and has grown to a staff of 10 employees and owners.
We have expanded our carrier selection from just one carrier to over 30 different carriers, too many to really sit down and count. Yes, we are still very heavily focused on farm and ranch insurance in addition to a full line of coverage for those in the Metro.
We have grown over the years and now we offer a wide range of other carriers insuring happy customers in the Austin metropolitan area. For Example, we now offer many of todays national premier carriers like Allstate, Progressive, Foremost, Encompass, and Travelers to name a few.
In addition to property and casualty lines, we now offer a full complement of health and medical coverage; life insurance; Medicare supplements, and a full line of employee benefits products.

In conclusion, Carter’s Insurance agency formed in 1976 has grown to become one of central Texas’ most exciting insurance agencies because we are here for our clients and customers.
